Belladonna of Sadness

Jeanne and her husband Jean are joyful newlyweds until the village lord asserts his feudal right and brutalizes Jeanne on their wedding night. Broken and cast out, she enters into a pact with a seductive demonic spirit who grants her growing power in exchange for her soul. The film is a psychedelic, watercolor-painted provocation that interweaves medieval history, feminist allegory, and erotic horror.
